Test the Diode With Multimeter

If we already understand that the PN junction diode is a semiconductor in which electrical current flows only in one direction, then we can determine whether they are good or faulty diode using analog multimeter or digital multimeter with diode test steps as follows.

Diode test With Digital Multimeter

  1. Select the mode in accordance with resistant diode (digital multimeter if there is no option can select the metering mode diode resistance / Ohm) by turning the switch digital meters
  2. Diode-called normal or diode good condition when the small resistance value when the probe red wire is connected to the leg diode anode (+) and black wire probe connected by foot cathode (-).
  3. Also said to be good if the big resistance approaching infinity when mounting the probe on the diode was reversed.
  4. Diode on short condition when the value of resistance of 0 ohms when measured in accordance with the direction llistrik current direction (forward / step 2) and the opposite position (reverse).
  5. Diode open or broken condition when the value of resistance approaches infinity when measured in the direction of the electric current (forward / step 2) and the opposite position (reverse).

    1. Select the resistance measurement mode (OHM) with resistance levels (range x 100) by turning the switch select analog multi-meter.
    2. Diode considered normal if the resistance value is small (multimeter needle close to the value 0 Ohm) when the probe red wire is connected to the diode anode (+) and black wire probe connected to the cathode (-).
    3. And also the diode is said to be good if a large resistance (multimeter needle does not move) when mounting the probe on the diode is reversed.
